When the Pokemon (translated as 'pocket monsters') sensation we know of today first began development in Japan in 1996, few could imagine the success it was going to achieve. Created by Satoshi Tajiri, the game was based on his childhood hobby of catching bugs and insects outside. In order to achieve his dream of creating this type of video game Taijiri and friends formed Game Freak. After many expenses and much hard work on February 27th, 1996, the first Pokemon games (the red and the green versions) hit the streets of Japan.
The premise of these video games was simple. Users were able to catch, train, and trade the little creatures they discovered in the game and eventually earn the title of Pokemon Master. The first games featured 151 different monsters. After the video games gained popularity in Japan and then in the U.S., trading card games and an anime series were developed. The card game allowed kids to collect different Pokemon then have battles and make trades with others. The anime series focused on the Pokemon adventures of trainer Ash Ketchum from the Red version video game and his faithful Pokemon, Pikachu. The series also featured Ash's rival from the Blue version, Gary Oak.
Since then there have been numerous spin-offs of the video games and television series including five different Pokemon "generations", four anime seasons, fourteen movies and even a live musical production. The Pokemon Company was also created and opened six stores across Japan with one subsection featured in the Nintendo store in New York City.
Now Pokemon fans from around the world have the opportunity to purchase high-quality, authentic plush toys, figures, key chains, etc. all from VideoGamePlush.com. Check out our huge selection of Pokemon collectibles today!
